THE RULE OF THE CASE

Description

In this room, we discover how a random and spontaneous gesture can generate works that promote total creative freedom. The Dada movement paved the way to chance and absurdity, in the rejection of cold rationality. Abstract works offer multiple interpretations and stimulate different feelings in each viewer. They allow a game of narrative invention, inspired by Rodari's Grammar of Fantasy. By collecting the impressions aroused from the observation of an abstract painting, we obtain the elements of a fantastic tale or a "non-sense" poem. The absurd turns out to be a powerful generative formula for creating images and stories.

This formula was tested in the "Squaderniamo a scuola" workshops, in which the children made a group collage in Dadaist style and then worked on the meanings suggested by the images, by composing together a limerick as a title for the collective work.

The workshops were inspired by the creative activities of the "Squaderno", an art notebook designed to stimulate creativity and self-narration by following in the footsteps of great modern and contemporary artists.
