MAKE FUN OF YOURSELF

Description

This exhibition is inspired by Self-Portrait (1630) by Judith Leyster, in which the author represents herself doing her daily activities. Without knowing the meaning of the painting, the authors of this itinerary have approached it critically, coming up with an original interpretation. After a first analysis, a subtle irony between the two subjects was noticed. It seems that the musician in the background is making fun of Judith and us. That is, the author is supposedly making fun of herself. Starting from the analysis of this self-portrait, we have created this project aimed at primary school classes (in particular, the 4th and 5th year children), with the aim of developing self-awareness in children as well as the ability of representing themselves in a comic key. The message we want to give is the following. If you really want to grow up, you shouldn't take yourself too seriously.
