Established as a research project in 2008, MOdE evolved into a museum in 2010, in accordance with the definition provided by the International Council of Museums (ICOM), which identifies museums as institutions dedicated to collecting, preserving, interpreting, and communicating tangible and intangible heritage for the benefit of society through educational, cultural, and public engagement activities.
MOdE was created to address the need to recognize education, in all its dimensions, as a field with a rich material, historical, and cultural heritage, as well as a multidisciplinary area of study and research. Its primary mission is to provide a digital environment where the tangible and intangible heritage of educational culture can be explored, shared, and interpreted through the active participation of a broad community of practice composed of museum education specialists, cultural heritage professionals, researchers, educators, and students.
By embracing the opportunities for collaboration and knowledge sharing offered by digital technologies and online networks, the Museum of Education Workshop enables visitors to:
- access information organized in a flexible way, supporting independent learning;
- explore both structured and personalized exhibition pathways;
- participate in a community of practice bringing together museum professionals, cultural heritage experts, researchers, educators, and students to discuss topics related to museum education and cultural heritage;
- design and curate White Rooms, Manifesto Rooms, and Documentation Rooms for the creation of virtual exhibitions and documentation pathways focused on specific educational themes;
- participate in e-learning courses on museum education and cultural heritage.
