The British Museum is the national museum of Great Britain, in 2003 it celebrated the 250th anniversary of its foundation, it's the oldest museum in the world and one of the most important attractions in London. The monumental atrium called Queen Elizabeth II Great Court is the largest covered pubblic space in Europe. With an area of 92 square meters it contains a permanent collection of around 8 million objects from different historical periods and geographical areas: four milion prehistoric objects and bones, a rich section dedicated to Egypt, the Rosetta stone, the Parthenon's blocks, the halls of Assyrian palaces, paintings, sculptures, pottery, jewelry, vessels and sarcophagi. Untill 1997 it housed the british library, then moved to St. Pancras. The museum grows daily and hosts temporary exhibitions of educational function.
